Types of Jobs at Australia Post

 

Postal Service Officer

Postal Services Officers are the face of Australia Post Retail Shops. They
play a vital role in the image and professionalism of Australia Post by
providing an important community service. Duties of this varied position
include selling Australia Post products and services, financial banking
transactions including Western Union money transfers. Customer service is an
important aspect of this job, you will be advising customers in person on
products such as phones, faxes, and other communication products and
services.

 

Postie (Motorcycle or Walking or Bicycle Delivery)

Our Postal Delivery Officers ("Posties") generally both sort and deliver the mail and are highly visible representatives of our business.
Posties are required to ride a motorcycle, ride a bicycle or walk to deliver the mail on their round. The mode of delivery varies depending on the location.

 
Night Sorting

Working in a Delivery Centre, our Night Sorters essentially sort the mail into rounds for our Posties who then complete the final mail sort into streets and number sequence. Sometimes Night Sorters will also "street and sequence" the mail.
Lifting is an inherent part of the role. Most Sorting roles usually commence between the hours of 1.00am and 6.00am

 
Mail Officers

Mail Officers play a vital role in mail processing systems. They receive, sort and dispatch articles of mail from local, national and worldwide locations. Mail processing employees work in our Letter facilities using the latest sorting equipment to ensure the correct and timely sorting and dispatch of articles. With all sorting duties lifting is an inherent part of the role. Speed and efficiency is vital in maintaining a high standard of quality customer service.

 
Parcel Post Officers

Parcel Post Officers operate in teams and play a vital role in our parcel processing systems. They receive, sort and dispatch parcels from local, national and worldwide locations. Parcel processing employees use the latest sorting equipment to ensure the correct and timely sorting and dispatch of articles. With all sorting duties lifting is an inherent part of the role. Speed and efficiency is vital in maintaining a high standard of quality customer service.

 
Driver Sorters

Driver Sorters are a vital link between our Post Offices and Delivery Centers and the Mail Centers. Their role involves driving a van to collect mail articles deposited at Post Offices and Street Posting Boxes and return it to a Hub where they are required to separate the items into major category groups such as large letters, small letters, small parcels, interstate mail etc.

 
Postal Transport Officers

PTO's in the Transport group mainly drive the large trucks and linehaul vehicles however in some locations, may also perform roles similar to those of a driver sorter.. They are responsible for the timely distribution of mail articles between all our centres by picking up mail and parcel articles and returning them to mail centres for sorting. All our drivers are rostered to drive both small and large trucks on both metropolitan and country routes, which can extend to state borders.

 
Video Coders (Data Entry)

Using screen-based equipment, a Video Coder will key in address details to complete the sorting of mail remotely via computer. Video Coding requires the ability to respond to a monitor and keyboard to achieve in excess of 10,000 keystrokes per hour at 98% accuracy. Fast and accurate data entry experience is essential.
