RETAINED FIREFIGHTER WITH THE NSW FIRE  BRIGADES

 

A Retained Firefighter is an "on call" paid firefighter.  Retained Firefighters are 'on call' from home or work rather than on duty at the station. Retained Firefighters respond to emergencies 24 hours a day.

Firefighters undertake a wide range of duties including:

 

 

·       motor vehicle accidents

·       bushfires

·       hazardous material response

·       storm and flood damage assistance

·       community education and fire prevention activities

·       fire suppression (building & bushfires)

·       rescue operations (including motor vehicle accidents).

 

 

To be eligible to apply for a Retained Firefighter position you must:

·       be available to attend fire calls and other incidents to meet the requirements of the station

·    live within a reasonable distance from the Retained Fire Station

·    have good communication skills and be able to work as part of a team

·       meet the medical and physical requirements of the job

·       have a current NSW drivers licence; and

·       be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
