There are many benefits to Part Time Work... for both employers and individuals alike
|
Today, the number of people choosing to fill their lives with more than work is increasing; Family, hobbies, health, further studies and sport are thankfully being recognised as more important in our lives. We regularly hear about ‘work / life balance’ and ‘work / life integration”; working part-time may be the key to achieving these concepts for ourselves.
What exactly is part-time work?
Part-time employees work less hours than full-time employees and receive all the entitlements of full-time employees but on a proportional basis. Employees may work part-time under an award, an enterprise agreement or under a part-time work agreement which has been designed to suit the individual.
For information on what a part-time Work Agreement should contain, please go to the related government website. We have provided Federal and State links for your convenience.
Types of part time roles
From general administrative to senior professional part time roles, many companies find the hours worked by a part time employee are far more productive than those completed in a traditional 40 hour week. Whilst the general and often misled perception is that senior roles cannot function effectively on a part time basis, the truth is that most roles can work on a less than full time basis as long as they are structured and managed appropriately. |
